Background

The project’s assignment was to design and implement a new external website for Swedish Migration Agency. The purpose was to make information more accessible and create a safer, clearer path for people applying for asylum, residence permits, or citizenship. Variant's UX-designer was part of the whole process.

The challenge

The analysis phase covered the entire digital customer journey, including the external website, e-services, and My Pages (user account portal). Based on insights from interviews with the target group, visits to service centers, and listening in on contact center interactions, a concept was developed for a cohesive experience across the website, e-services, and My Pages. The concept was then evaluated with users from the target group using prototypes.

Implementation phase

During the implementation phase, our UX designer worked together with an agile cross-functional development team to realize the developed concept. The team worked in sprints, where detailed design and requirements were defined in the sprint before the specific parts were developed. During the second half of the implementation, additional usability evaluations were also carried out with users from the target group in order to identify any usability issues and address them before launch.

The result

The project’s assignment was to design and implement a new external website for Swedish Migration Agency. The purpose was to make information more accessible and create a safer and more secure pathway for people applying for asylum, residence permits, or citizenship. Swedish Migration Agency’s new accessibility-secured website also won the Web Service Award 2025 in the Societal Information category in 2025.
